Even the discrimination towards Asians expected to score higher than their peers to be accepted into schools, there was little to no coverage on that! It's not discussed because idk, they are considered white adjacent??! I don't see any organizations supporting Asian's. (Not dismissing black shootings before that's said) This subject of Asian hate has been truly neglected. It's heartbreaking. I may be a month late, but I'm glad you are shining a light on this on such a large platform. I feel as if Asians are the forgotten in all of this! Truly just a shame. Peace, love & support!

Im sorry I have been about a month behind in watching videos from channels I follow. As an American female of northern European decent I thank you for helping to educate me and offer information that I can hopefully share in support to the vast and beautiful Asian community. I am sorry to anyone who has suffered a hate crime. I felt this was a hate of both women in general and especially to Asians and I am glad people are standing up and calling it for what it is.

It is super important too to frame the sexualization of asian women within the US' foreign policy, and how part of dehumanizing the people of the lands that american soldiers imperialize is making them sexually available and infantile, a people ripe for exploitation of every kind. We see this in every war and occupation that the US engages in.

Fuck me, a panel full of SJW snowflakes (2 who actually have their "pronouns" on display) is what I see here. I won't even watch the rest but I guarantee you that the large amount of Black on Asian attacks was not discussed. The media turned it into another fake 'Anti-White' headline but you're too steeped into your victimhood to even realize this.

Ever wonder why those people who stormed the Capitol still believe they did nothing wrong and are on the right side of history? How morally good people can talk themselves into doing immoral things? Fear. Fear for their jobs, their life savings. Fear for their children. Fear for their future. Fear. "How can I protect myself? My loved ones? My country and community?" Confronting fear is hard. Overcoming it is even harder. Well, here's a blogpost that sums it all up and gives a common cause, youtube link at the bottom, join our facebook group! Be angry at an enemy you don't know and have never met but definitely exists and is the root cause of all your problems. Big Whatever, the Cabal, the elites, pick your scapegoat of choice. Fuel your anger with oversensationalized bad news cycles. With lies and baseless conspiracies. Don't think for yourself, go down the rabbit hole. Trust us. Trust your instincts, your gut feeling. You don't need facts, you know we're right. Be as angry as you can be. Nice and simple. "But why am I judged for it? I only want to protect myself and my children. Don't they understand? Can't they see the Truth I see?" So you start to hate the people who don't want your children to be safe. Who don't want to protect society and culture against the Great Threat. They are a part of it no doubt, out to ruin your life. So whenever they confront you, you double down. Triple down. Because you're fighting the good fight. You're righteous and a hero. You're a _really good person._ This is how essentially good people can go off and do bad things. This is why truth and facts don't sway them, it doesn't chance their personal situation, it doesn't take away their fear. They come from a good place but fear twists their morals and judgement. Fear justifies their anger and hate. Fear controls their lives. Fear is the mindkiller. Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering.

And he doesn't really have a reason to lie. People will still say its a hate crime regardless, and its not adding to his sentence when hes already a mass murdering piece of ■■■■.

When they said it wasn't racially motivated i already know what they are trying to do, these people is trying to hold the people as much as they can even though they are a ticking bomb ready to explode, why they are holding them?? Very simple if they confirm that it really is a racially motivated attacked asian will not hesitate to do a protest like the BLM and last thing they want is a riot going on(which is unlikely) but they are not willing to take that chances so they are denying it as much as they can and hoping that the attack will die down. Also it is not good for Bidens resume if another BLM like protest happens under his term but like i said it's a ticking bomb sooner or later it will explode they need to prepare if it's a peaceful protest or just another riot.

Welp, I agree with parts of that. But it wasn't racially motivated (I assume you meant the Atlanta Shooting) and theres no reason for the killer himself not to admit if it was. He killed 7 people, a hate crime on top isn't going to make any difference. Plus he killed hispanic and white people too..Second, I don't there will be rioting in this case. Unless someone does something extra crazy to stoke it. But yes there will be riots eventually. Because people are angry and dumb by nature. And Blm hasn't stop protesting and rioting for like a year plus now. They just don't show it BECAUSE Biden is in office. Theyre not preventing the riots, they're just not telling anyone when it happens..

This video has given me a lot to think about pertaining to how I might be a better ally and advocate for the Asian community. I've begun separating ties with people who I hear making comments and hold hateful views (with them resisting my efforts to try and change their minds/convince them their views are bigoted and incorrect). The United States has a lot of work and soul searching to do following both these most recent events and the historical ones that have been brushed off for so many years.

I don't understand why people can't just be nice. Like, my statement is so simple and the concept is, in itself, SO simple. We're all humans. No matter where we came from, no matter what language we speak or who we love, we are ALL human beings. Just treat your fellow human beings with respect. Why choose hate? Why choose violence or ignorance? Choose love. You're making it harder on yourself to actually hate people. Once you open up your mind and your heart, you'll find that your life becomes SO much simpler.

Thank you for platforming this discussion. I am an educator (college level) and I frequently try to use videos like this to generate discussions about how U.S. policies rhetorically (and materially) marginalize minorities. I am so glad that I can add this video to my utility belt. As a white person, it isn't my place to steal this stage, but I did want to thank you for providing such important discussion. It also isn't my place to suggest programming, but it struck me that one way to keep these kinds of discussions from being a monster of the week might be to add cultural heritage spaces to programming. I would watch WWWs from the Chinese Historical Society of America, for example. Much love all. Be safe and strong.

i’m really glad that this information is being shared here, it is so important. i don’t want to start any drama, just something i noticed, but steven refers to the shooter as a “gentleman” or a “young adult”, which i’m sure had no ill intent, but hurts to hear as an asian american woman. to me it reads as saying “a guy can murder 6 women who look like you because he had a racist s3xua11 fantasy/prejudice against you, but he’s still a ‘gentleman’”. again, i just wanted to share this so we can all grow as people and so everyone can hear from a voice from someone who was deeply effected by the tragedy and has felt the pains of f3tishiz@tion. i’m sure steven meant no ill will, and i am so thankful for the support for the community, which steven has always been a major advocate for.

Being a white person living in North America (Canada) and coming from families that have been here since the early 1700s I believe it's my duty to try to educate myself on these issues historically and current issues. I believe we should have required classes on the human experience covering racism/sexism/anti LGBTQ issues historically and currently. I came from a small primarily white, conservative Christian village/town and I had no opportunity to learn about what life is like outside of my sheltered bubble. For years I thought racism didn't exist in Canada judging entirely from the few interactions I've witnessed between non white people and the white people I know. Luckily, I live surrounded by white people who happen to be kind and non judgemental but that doesn't represent my entire country.

The virus analogy isn’t perfect bc racism obviously isn’t something that pops out of nowhere and passively spreads; we should also be careful about what the analogy might unintentionally say about people who’re actually sick. I get where you’re coming from though, and I respect you for speaking up. We need to put an end to racism in this country.

I think it's idiocy for people in America to take out their anger on Asian Americans regarding covid-19. I'm not mad at Asian people. I'm mad at the Wuhan authorities or whatever their version of the FDA is for not regulating the food markets where all that weird meat is sold. Those kind of food markets like the one in Wuhan needs to have stricter regulations regarding how meats are processed and the types of meat that are sold to people to prevent the transfer of diseases from animals to humans.

Thank you for holding this forum. I'm Asian, trans, mentally ill and a sex worker, regardless of my status, I am human too. Those people were human. The perpetrator targeted areas with mainly Asian staff. It IS a hate crime. Just like the time a yoga studio was targeted. Or when a black church was targeted. Even if the victims were "coincidentally" Asian, at the very least, he wanted to kill women. This is a hate crime, whether or not they were Asian, women or sex workers. He chose the location for a reason. He targeted a specific group of people.

I totally get Ryan's sadness in feeling like no one knows that this is all going on. Right after New Years, the cherry trees in our Japantown were destroyed here in San Francisco and that's when I began to realize what was going on and began being vocal about it. For weeks I was tweeting, insta-posting, facebook-posting about various incidents and rallies that I was going to but no one really seemed to care. It wasn't until one night when I was texting one of my friends who's family is from the philippines that she told me that she appreciated all the posts I was making because I was the only one in her life who was non-asian who was constantly speaking up about it. So even if it feels defeating, always speak up for what is right y'all! #StopAsianHate

As an AA, I really love the solidarity between AAPI and Black communities through all of this. There has historically been a lot of violence between the two but I think we're slowly understanding that this only serves to divide us in our fight against White Supremacy. We also need to note that these victims weren't just "Asians." They were women, elders from gentrified neighborhoods, and immigrants. They face violence from our own community as well. To uplift our communities, we must start by supporting those most vulnerable.

Seeing media and law enforcement try to downplay and even defend this straight up hate crime is appalling. White people have been heard loud and clear throughout history - especially on topics we have no business speaking on, because frankly we just have no idea. in my country its a crime to be racial radical. there have been instances where there were groups that targeted a single race and it was not hidden from the public. i'm really glad that Watcher is addressing this as well.

I'm disappointed by the lack of views on this. Please, people. Educate yourselves, speak to your respective communities, advocate for AAPI rights. We're all struggling with COVID-19, but please don't blame Asians for it. Hate is a virus.

The habits of media reporting are problematic on many levels: 1. The lack of representation of many cultures leads to a lack of voice. A non-API reporter will tread far too lightly on this subject and have no real perspective to offer. I'm almost surprised I haven't heard a "ban Anime" discussion. 2. They are appealing to the widest audience with the most sensational part of the story. "Crazy shooter" grabs everyone, whereas "racial violence" grabs fewer. The murderer gets the view. 3. Misinformation, misinformation, misinformation. The history of Asian Americans is absolutely whitewashed and overlooked in schooling, be it for lack of time to cover ground (like the same lack of actual history of Indigenous Americans), or what minimal standards need to be met in the current U.S. educational standard Media needs fixing. We can't depend on Vice News, et al, for our cultural stories. Thank you for jumping in and adding more attention to this recent atticity and the related, existing systemic issues. Sorry for the ramble. Typing while tired.

There's a video of The Daily Show's correspondent Michael Costa titled "Why is the alt right so angry". In that video there was a part where he was speaking to a psychologist, and apparently it's easy to radicalise people just by sexual suppression. He then says it's a tactic used by white supremacists, and it's basically the same tactic the Nazis used. With that said, I'm not buying this sexual addiction excuse... #HateIsAVirus

@Marce I'm not a psychologist nor am I an expert on human behavior, I can't explain how the man got to that conclusion Search for the video and listen to him Search: "Why is the alt-right so angry Michael Costa" it should appear at the top

    (1) IF you had done your homework (internet research, instead of believing every dumb MSM).... you could have determined another point of view...called TRUTH. I completely believe he is WRONG in his actions. Here is a clip from his former roommate, this man was in REHAB for SEX ADDICTION... And he had frequented these places (HELLO....McFLY....what does that tell you????).... amcall.info/cloud/f4Z3psmFyKKUxHg/video.html (2) Do your homework please before posting this "alleged accusation", (I am totally with you on the cause ) - however, you are misinformed on this situation. I am disappointed in the accusations. (3) You already know what goes here!!!

As an Asian, thank you so much for spreading awareness. It makes me sick that people are being attacked because of the colour of their skin. Hate truly is a deadly virus.

So I am curious. I heard some people don't like the phrase Hate Is A Virus cause to some, it sounded like a passively spreading thing instead of one that is actively perpetuated. No hate, I'm just curious how other people feel about that phrase being used?

It is useful bcs lets say...whatever the number of people see this, those who will agree and atleast be educated and those who will start more conversation and spread it and make it less acceptable for such people to get away with it so it will reach them aventually even if its a stranger just speaking up and making it clear to their community and people around them that this is not oke. So imo it is useful ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@b m People can change. I believe everyone has the capacity to change, not that everyone will change. So campaigns like this are always important, both for Asian Americans to feel supported, for those in-between people to better understand the issue, and for racist people to know that what they do and say will not be tolerated. I can see what you mean but I would not give up hope so easily :)

I have no problems with it. I just think this whole campaign is kinda useless because it won't reach the targeted group. Racist people usually live in a homogenous community. They interact with each other, and it's very unlikely that seeing a slogan can change their minds

Thank you for taking the time and energy to educate, even though it is not your obligation. As a white person, I will never experience anything like this, so hearing about it and what experiences I have from being discriminated against as a bisexual and trans person is the only way I can vaguely understand. Many people from the LGBTQ+ community stand with you. #hateisavirus

Gosh, I didn't even know that this was happening recently. I mean that they existed as racism exists of course but not to this extent towards Asians. It's probably because I live in the UK that I was unaware of this until now but as a half Chinese woman I am now very concerned for my wellbeing. Not in a selfish way btw. Its just that rarely am I scared for my own life as I'm usually only worried for others under the impression that something like that happening to me is very unlikely. But now that Asians like myself are being targeted feels like someone painted a red cross on my back for anyone who hates Asians to the point of violence.

Oh great. So now I have to worry about more racist morons as well as covid? I ran into a few idiots online(I've been called all sorts of Asian slurs), but I really don't want to run into some irl too. That guy can claim "sex addiction" all he wants. Last time I checked, a "sex addiction" can't grab a gun. That's just a dumb excuse.

As a Chinese American viewer, I am so, so happy to see this discussion and this education about the history of Anti-Asianess in the U.S. I'm always waved off when I try to bring this subject up (I also grew up in a city with a very small Asian population) so its so comforting and validating to see and hear this discussion. Thank you.

The only time the Right will admit it's a racist attack is if something happened to a guy who looked like me. Racism hurts all of us. I'm sorry this is happening, and I speak out against racism as much as I can.
